Mayfield Festival Choir
September 29, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:15 pm
TW is joined by BBC Radio 3’s Jeremy Summerly and his Mayfield Festival Choir for a fun evening of anecdotes and tales from the music world, sing-a-longs and more!
I hope you’re all looking forward to our zoom meeting this evening. Tonight is going to be quite different to usual in that we are being joined by Jeremy Summerly and his choral society for an evening of exchange. Jeremy and singers from Mayfield will talk about their choir, its history and usual life, and we’ll do the same about NCS. If there’s someone who has been a member for a long time and would be happy to join me in saying a few words please could you let me know sometime today? Email: te.williams.mail@gmail.com
Then there’ll be a short break before a fun performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria. So please get your scores ready – you should still have them from the spring term I think! If not, there are several versions available on the internet. It’ll be an interesting affair; Jeremy and I will take a keyboard each (plus a tenor and bass part) and we’re delighted that our long suffering other halves, Helly and Sophie, have agreed to help out by providing the sop and alto lines. The emphasis will be on fun(!) so please don’t be too critical of the keyboard playing…
There’ll be a chance to stop and reflect on the work’s history as we go along, and I’m sure Jeremy will have plenty of anecdotes of recording and performing the work.
Looking forward to seeing you at 7.30.
Thanks
Tom
