Our Centenary Concert was held on Saturday 17th May; a rarer opportunity to hear Elgar’s choral masterpiece in all its power and beauty in the dramatic surroundings of Clifton Cathedral.

This one-off anniversary performance brought together an outstanding cast of internationally acclaimed soloists: Mark Le Brocq as the impassioned Gerontius, Rebecca Afonwy Jones a luminous Angel, and Edmund Danon as both the commanding Priest and the solemn Angel of the Agony.

Radiant, dramatic, and profoundly tender, it traces the final moments of a dying man and his soul’s journey into the afterlife, set to some of Elgar’s most inspired and heartfelt music, moving from the hushed intensity of Gerontius’s prayers to the soaring grandeur of the Angel’s Farewell, with sweeping choral climaxes, glowing orchestral textures and searing drama.
